“Life on the Mississippi is a joy, mostly, for the folks who live in Winona's funky houseboat community hugging the shore of Latsch Island in the middle of the Mississippi River. For decades, it's been home to roughly 100 tiny floating homes, although only a few residents stay through the winter.” - MPR February 14, 2017
“This community, stationed on lower Latsch Island, is the only legal, habitable boat house community on the Mississippi river. Founded in the early 1970s, the population of this group has risen to about 120 boat houses.” -The Winonan, March 15, 2023
