Ice fishing is a beloved winter tradition in Minnesota. Ice fishing on the Mississippi River involves fishing for perch, bluegills, and crappie through the ice. The backwaters of the river are very popular locations because they have deep pools larger slabs of ice than may be present in the main channel.. This individual had walked close to a mile before pulling out his auger to drill his first hole. Not sure why they chose the specific spot they did, but the sled allowed him to carry a lot of gear with him on his search. With a steady supply of food, crappies grow big,in the Mississippi, providing one of the hottest bites of the Midwest hardwater season.
There are a lot of ways in which you can try ice fishing – spearing, tip ups, rattle reels, jiggle sticks – all of which can be exciting and have their own learning curve.
